Ethereal. Elusive. The crown jewel of the variegated world.
A true collector’s fantasy, Monstera deliciosa ‘Variegata Super White’ is the rarest and most visually striking form of the beloved Swiss Cheese Plant. Originating from Central American rainforests, this cultivar boasts enormous, fenestrated leaves washed in crisp white marbling, sometimes featuring entire sectors of pure alabaster. Each leaf is utterly unique – a living work of art with high contrast between white and green. Its dramatic look and rarity have made it one of the most coveted houseplants in the world.
Care Guide
While its beauty is unmatched, this plant requires a little extra attention to thrive:
-
Light: Needs bright, indirect light to maintain variegation. Too little light may lead to reversion, while direct sun can scorch the white sections.
-
Watering: Allow the top 2–3cm of soil to dry before watering. Avoid soggy soil, especially around white-leaved sections, which are more delicate.
-
Humidity: Enjoys higher humidity (60%+). Use a humidifier or mist regularly to keep foliage crisp and lush.
-
Temperature: Best in warm conditions – 18–28°C. Keep away from draughts and sudden temperature changes.
-
Feeding: Use a balanced fertiliser every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer. Avoid overfeeding to protect the white tissue.
-
Soil: A chunky aroid mix is essential – use orchid bark, perlite, and compost for fast drainage and airflow.
-
Support: Provide a moss pole or trellis to encourage vertical growth and larger, fenestrated leaves.
Best Placement in the Home
Give this plant a starring role in your living room, bright hallway, or glass-fronted plant cabinet. Its statement foliage thrives when given space to climb and be admired.
Rarity & Ease
Extremely rare and highly prized, especially with stable, high-white variegation, this plant commands premium prices on the collector market. It’s moderate in care, ideal for those with some plant experience and a bright space to show it off. A truly elite addition to any houseplant collection.
