Graceful. Blush-pink. A springtime showstopper for elegant gardens.
Prunus ‘Accolade’ is a deciduous ornamental cherry tree, renowned for its spectacular early spring blossom and graceful arching branches. This half standard version, grown on a 150cm stem, forms a neatly rounded crown, perfect for adding height, structure, and soft seasonal colour to gardens of any size. In March–April, it bursts into bloom with masses of semi-double, shell-pink flowers, loved by bees and pollinators. As autumn arrives, its leaves turn warm orange and red, adding multi-season interest.
Originally bred from Japanese cherry species, it thrives in the UK climate, tolerating a wide range of soils and conditions with ease.
Care Guide
This flowering cherry is easy to grow and rewards with stunning colour:
-
Position: Full sun to light dappled shade. Best in a sheltered spot to protect early blooms from harsh wind.
-
Soil: Will grow in almost any fertile, well-drained soil – from loam to chalk. Avoid waterlogged sites.
-
Watering: Water regularly during its first year while establishing. Once mature, it’s largely drought-tolerant.
-
Feeding: Feed in early spring with a slow-release fertiliser to support healthy growth and flowering.
-
Pruning: Minimal pruning required. Lightly shape after flowering if necessary.
Best Placement Outdoors
Ideal for front gardens, courtyards, formal beds, or as a standalone feature tree in small to medium spaces. Its compact, elevated crown makes it suitable above lower planting or underplanted with spring bulbs.
Rarity & Ease
The half standard form of ‘Accolade’ is less commonly found in garden centres, offering an elegant, professional look usually seen in landscape designs. It’s very easy to grow, low maintenance, and a brilliant option for anyone wanting instant spring wow-factor in a manageable size.
